Sun 15-Jun
Intended to have a rerun of the 'Place the Spider on Grampy's Head' competition this morning, Sammy having yesterday found a big, hairy spider for the job. Unfortunately Barry let it go this morning, not realising what it was for, and it legged it as only a spider can. For fun, I took with me a tiny dot of a spider to wind Sammy up... it's hiding away in the top of this jar. It was such a cool morning we couldn't find a decent replacement, so the event has been deferred for another more spider-friendly day.
Mon 16-Jun
John on his second interview this afternoon for store manager at Townrow in St Ives. Popped in afterwards to give me my Father's Day present... a golf bag trolley and golf glove! Looking forward to our next game... let me at 'im!
Tue 17-Jun
Set off on the three and a half hour, 8 mile walk to Houghton via Wyton on the Hill. Lovely weather, sunny and warm. Here we are heading down The Lanes, a series of hidden footpaths that wind around Houghton between some very smart houses. Had tea and cake at Houghton Mill cafe, then back home via The Thicket path. Brilliant walk!
Wed 18-Jun
On the iMac from just after 6.00am this morning as usual, mostly preparing for the Flower & Produce Show. Got to get all the documents ready to go off for printing by the end of the month. Also hoping to get lots of WI ladies involved in our challenge to invent, name and bake a new recipe to go into the history books, since we couldn't find any local historical recipes.
Thu 19-Jun
Round of golf with David this afternoon, his first ever. And on the first hole, a par 3 playing from an elevated platform over two lakes, he amazingly hit the green first time. Couldn't find his ball... landed down a rabbit hole. Hacked his way up the long second hole, stating he'd rather be ironing. By the third hole he was questioning whether he'd bother finishing. From the fourth onwards the comments are unrepeatable. Didn't manage to finish the ninth hole, the last. Had run out of golf balls.
Fri 20-Jun
Finished papering Beth's bedroom this morning, and with another session while I was down the bowls club in the evening, Linda finished painting the other three walls. Just got to move all her stuff back in tomorrow and it'll be ready for a nice surprise when she gets back from Portugal Sunday afternoon.
Sat 21-Jun
Couple of hours on the allotment this afternoon in warm sunshine. First visit for over a week. Tended the tomatoes, did some watering and composting. Cleaned the pond out. Got at least two baby frogs. Love the leeks I'm leaving to seed. Lovely shape as the flower develops, then a big lavender flower. Would look good in the back garden.
