27-Apr to 03-May 2014

Sun 27-Apr
Big bowls match this afternoon for The McKinnie Brothers' Cup. Here's the winner, Andrew, with the cup. The words of the song "Could Have Been Me' echoed in my mind, since I was one up for me and Andy's tie as we went into the last end and finished with a draw. So close!

Mon 28-Apr
Here's the gaberdine raincoat my brothers stiffed me into buying from the Oxfam shop on our wander around St Ives this morning. Thought I was getting a great bargain... Tom Smith designer brand, great quality and only £4.99. OK, a bit on the large size, though Bob grabbing a handful at the back while I looked in the shop mirror helped somewhat. Later found it's a brand sold at Tesco, so not quite such a bargain. Sure it'll come in useful... somehow.

Tue 29-Apr
Off to The Marsh Harrier for tea tonight with the family for an advance 40th birthday celebration for Becky. Here's Amelia in one of her rare moments of being stationery. Most of the evening she was walking from one end of the restaurant (where the kids play room was) to the other (where the exit door and fruit machine were).

Wed 30-Apr
After being told my current sun hat made me look like Worzel Gummidge at the bowls opening day, here's the replacement that arrived this morning. Only ordered it yesterday. Now fully ready for the first bowls league match tomorrow evening. Does make me look a bit like a parasol.

Thu 01-May
At last, the spinach vine has come up. This year's exotic experimentation. Hoping to swap some plants for a load of rhubarb to make rhubarb jam.

Fri 02-May
The figs definitely like it against the hot south facing wall of the house. This is the earliest I've ever seen figs developing. Figs for summer!

Sat 03-May
Spent a couple of hours on the allotment late afternoon. Didn't get all that much done, still low energy after the bad cold. Noticed how well the chives are doing, all full of buds just about to flower.
