Sun 30-Mar
Just a week after planting all the seeds trays on the study windowsill and they're all erupting. Here are the dwarf beans, looking like they'll be taking the place over in another week!
Mon 31-Mar
All well on the allotment again, with that central path mowed and clipped. Also started sorting the border on the flower bed in front of the shed. The new pond is leaking. Waterproof tape I applied is useless and coming away. To easily sort it I'm going to buy a rubberised lining and lay that on top of the existing plastic lining.
Tue 01-Apr
Here's the £2 coin I superglued to the fence outside Sammy's front door early this afternoon as an April Fool trick. As soon as he spotted it he whipped his tool box out and had it off in a flash with a hammer and chisel. Still to hear from Connor about his £2 coin. Both Paige & Izzy sussed their Minecraft letters and 'phone the registration number (my mobile) to let me know I couldn't fool them.
Wed 02-Apr
Wandered around the Earith circular walk this morning for the first time. First walk with a coat as well, since it was really warm. Loads of butterflies out. At last managed to master the art of taking close ups with the iPhone, as this snap of a peacock butterfly demonstrates.
Thu 03-Apr
Pond water dropped again on our visit to the allotment this morning. Looks like it's leaking from the repair I did on the far corner. The waterproof tape is useless. Decided to buy pond liner and just lay over the existing plastic lining.
Fri 04-Apr
Pottering about in the back garden this afternoon, noticed how well the fig trees are doing against the south facing house wall. And is this specimen shows, I'm going to have delicious figs to eat this summer!
Sat 05-Apr
Connor's first archaeological dig this morning at a garden in Houghton. Positioned right beside the local church, the first half hour of preparation was carried out in shout mode, since the church bells were ringing, and deafening. Here's Connor working on the second layer of one the two test pits dug, this level at 20cms. Found loads of pottery and building materials, but mid afternoon disappointingly came down to glacial clay after about 40cms, which ended the dig.
