Sun 02-Mar
First visit to the allotment for eleven days. Most of the time spent repairing another broken window by installing a wooden frame and stapling plastic sheeting to replace. Only trouble was I'd forgotten the staple gun, so couldn't finish the job. What digging I did was really heavy going, still very damp.
Mon 03-Mar
Beautiful sunny morning, so off we walked into St Ives with Beth and Amelia for tea and cake. Here we are about half way, with Beth probably telling me to be gentle and make sure I didn't wake Amelia, who was having her morning nap.
Tue 04-Mar
During a couple of sunny hours on the allotment this afternoon, the main aim being to finish repairing the greenhouse, also had time to christen it with the first seeds planted... various types of lettuce and spinach. Also took home potted seeds of sweet basil and various tomatoes for the magic windowsill. At last, the allotment year has started!
Wed 05-Mar
Connor at our house as usual, while Paige at ballet. The usual format... cheese, bread, chocolate biscuits and tea while watching a TV programme about bronze age burials, then on to the iPad for a search on Google Earth for interesting features. Even he's now shy of having his photo taken, as this hurried snap shows.
Thu 06-Mar
Bit of a result. Slight change in plans for the back garden after Linda expressed concern about siting the new bird feed station nearer her washing. So after returfing the site of the existing pole and deciding to try just hammering the new pole into the ground in the same spot rather than concrete it in, within two hours the new bird feed station was up and running. Quite like the change, since it means the square can now be purely a gravel/pebble garden.
Fri 07-Mar
Walking back from town after cake & tea at The Dolphin and some shopping, was spotted by Becky as we passed her house and popped in to be treated to more tea and a sandwich for lunch. Here's Sammy's latest wheeze... a bomb apparently containing 200 gunpowder capsules. He's planning to build a sling to launch it. More worrying... got a text from Becky later saying Sammy, Connor and George had cycled up to the allotment. Only just resisted the urge to belt up there and see the damage, since it was dark by the time I got the text.
Sat 08-Mar
First walk of the year to Woodhurst, dragged Connor along since Chris was working all day. Here's Linda and Connor in deep discussion approaching half way, Woodhurst village on the horizon. Highlights were spotting a hare, having cheese sandwiches and coffee sitting by Woodhurst pond, and Connor finding a spring that started a small stream.
