23-Feb to 01-Mar 2014

Sun 23-Feb
Not quite sure why it's taken me so long to get started on the next stage of the back garden redesign. Although this afternoon was a little warmer, still had to wrap up and there was little sunshine. Just so therapeutic, forensically weeding and loosening up the soil. The borders were a bit neglected last year, so only managed about six feet in almost two hours... here's the end result. Since I've decided to tone down the border redesign and just smarten up the existing ones before sowing all the wild flower and grass seed saved from last summer, hopefully won't take me too long.

Mon 24-Feb
Walked into town with Beth & Amelia this morning. Here's the sausage appreciating some of her mum's cake in The Dolphin, before going on to charm all the strangers sitting nearby.

Tue 25-Feb
Hurrah! The first begonia on the magic windowsill is now well and truly up and running, with the rest not far behind and budding well. Was worried I might have planted them too soon, but looking good!

Wed 26-Feb

Normal Wednesday afternoon visit from Connor while Paige is at ballet. Met him and his scooter half way up the long path as usual, although he was so taken with the smoothness of the relaid path he whizzed past me. Here he is sharing his latest fascination, the names and routes of the streams around St Ives.

Thu 27-Feb
Took Jazz out for a walk late afternoon. Went up to the allotment to check all OK, since hadn't visited for a week. As usual Jazz all excited, scenting rats, voles, rabbits etc. Here's the beautiful sunset we were treated to as we delicately stepped between the puddles and mud.

Fri 28-Feb
Pouring down and extremely muddy it might be, but make a promise to Connor and nothing puts him off. So here we are late afternoon at his favourite stream, just about to set off again into the rain to trace its underground course across Burleigh Hill estate. He would happily have continued across the fields towards Woodhurst had teatime not been overdue.

Sat 01-Mar
With improved, radio friendly weather, making great progress with the back garden redesign. Finished the far border and sowed all the wild flower and wild grass seeds this afternoon. Will be giving it a close eyeball every few days to see if anything is coming up. Also managed to squeeze in a weed and dig over of the square. Leave that a couple of weeks and it'll be ready for raking, installation of the bird pole socket and ordering of gravel.
