Sun 12-Jan
Arrived at Becky's bang on 3pm all stocked up for the opening night rerun of the pantomime what Sammy wrote, Little Red Riding Hood, with Miss Isabel Shores in the starring role as Miss Hood (as well as all the other parts). Only the opening night rerun didn't happen... Sammy couldn't be bothered and was busy hammering and sawing to make a sight for his latest gun.
Mon 13-Jan
What a result! After a few days of consideration and careful selection of bits and pieces, managed to knock up the repair to the greenhouse door in under two hours. Just needs a bit of adjustment and the installation of the bottom runner and I'll be ready to move on to doing the same for the empty bits in the side and back.
Tue 14-Jan
One of these days I'll remember to plant broad beans in the autumn; if I did they'd be six inches high now. Here's my late afternoon attempt to make up for that, hoping for an early crop by potting some up on the magic study windowsill. First sowing of anything for the new season.
Wed 15-Jan
Latest fixation... Clarks Nivan Life 5 tan shoes. All nubuck leather uppers and beautiful styling. That's me shod for the new bowls season or £32.50, half the standard retail price.
Thu 16-Jan
Did the walk to Hemingford Abbots, with a stop over for a delicious tomato & mascarpone soup and plum cake at The Hemingford Garden Room. Got soaked half way round, but as we wandered towards The Thicket, spotted four bullfinches in exactly the same spot we'd seen one the previous year!
Fri 17-Jan
Here I am, just before 6.00pm, finishing the last repair to the allotment greenhouse with the aid of a head torch. Every surrounding noise gets amplified when I use the head torch, since it blocks your night vision and restricts what you can see to a tiny arc, whereas if there's anyone around they can see you from miles away. Didn't think about Linda back home, worrying where I'd got to. With my right knee having a tendency to give way at the moment she was leaving it until 6.00pm before she called out the troops to get me.
Sat 18-Jan
Visitation from The Seymours this afternoon. As usual Paige thrashed me at Pairs. Amelia is now clapping and she's got a funny smile. Here's Connor trying to keep hold of his little sister.
