Sun 05-Jan
More muddy path laying on the allotment this morning. Managed to reposition the white grape vine as well. Since we had our second light frost overnight, harvested the first leeks for tea. Might be the best crop ever, and going to feature prominently on the menu from now on... only got about two hundred to go!
Mon 06-Jan
Snooker against David at The Legion tonight, a 3-2 win to me starting off the 2014 McKinnie Cup competition. Here's the status board. Hope there'll be a count against the bowls come spring.
Tue 07-Jan
Arrived at Becky's this afternoon to view the opening night of the panto Little Red Riding Hood what was written by Sammy. Despite having a cup of tea and a chat and then sitting in the living room while the spectators (all the soft toys) filed into their seats, after an hour they still weren't ready and we had to go. Arranged to return at the weekend to watch was is apparently almost an hour of Sammy operating the lights and directing Izzy.
Wed 08-Jan
Here are me and Connor on the iMac late this afternoon, plugging away at content for the first entry on his new web site My Desert Islands. Thanks goodness he liked what I'd set up in advance for him, so we could just concentrate on his first choice of Caroline Island. Must have given him an appetite... afterwards he demolished a packet of muffins, half a slab of cheese and a few chocolate biscuits for good measure!
Thu 09-Jan
Just love parcels coming for me. At breakfast a book arrived from the publishers for me to review on Allotment Heaven. On returning from a stroll up The Thicket, there were two more parcels. One contained the replacement mini speaker for attaching to my iPhone. The other delivered the book bought with Christmas vouchers from my mum that's going to get me creating abstract art again.
Fri 10-Jan
Off to the Hunts Library Archive this afternoon to search through some recipe books dating from 1700s in a search for St Ives or Huntingdon bakery we could use in the Show. Drew a blank... plenty of recipes for plague and ague cures, but what bakery recipes existed weren't suitable. Then moved on to snapping some of the old newspaper entries for St Ives Bowls Club to archive on the web site. Here's one from April 1943.
Sat 11-Jan
Babysitting for Beth & Chris this evening, here's the kids playing in the butt head olympics. This event not quite as much fun (as can be seen from Paige's face) as the following challenge... blindfolded, to pick up balls strewn around the floor with your head.
