01-Dec to 07-Dec 2013

Sun 01-Dec
Thinking about my dad today on his birthday. Finally managed to write about the time I missed the opportunity to have a chat with him, called Regret.

Mon 02-Dec
Tea and cakes in The Taproom this morning with Chris & Beth. Poor experience at The Dolphin on Saturday when they served tea with cold water, replaced it with weak tea, and the tea had been tasting a bit funny for weeks. Here's Amelia half way through her lunch, catching the gaze and smiles of passersby. Apparently she looks tired. Not half as tired as her mum and dad... she decided it was playtime half way through the night!

Have just realised dad never met Amelia. That makes me feel sad.

Tue 03-Dec
Like a feeding frenzy at the allotments this afternoon after 60 tons of compost was delivered, free to allotment association members. Each of us were allowed one ton, or twenty wheelbarrow loads. Here's my first load almost ready. It's at times like these I regret having an allotment at the other end of the site from the car park. Can't hang around... got some hauling to do!

Wed 04-Dec
Paige's birthday this evening, nine years old today! Where has all that time gone? Can see from this snap she had some competition for parcel opening, Amelia trying to get into the act. Nice to hear Paige had given her little sister an owl shaped purse with a note in it.

Thu 05-Dec
This one's for Becky & Sammy. On a trip to Huntingdon this morning, noted how far on they are with knocking down Becky's old workplace. Looks like they're just about at the bit she used to sit and manage the nation's tax affairs from.

Fri 06-Dec
It's on a day like today I remember why I like having an allotment. Cold, damp and grey, there's every chance without it I'd have stayed in for the afternoon to read a book or have a nap. But part way through the big winter preparation dig the sun shone and everything around looked golden.

Sat 07-Dec
With grey skies and muddy paths, it's been a while since we'd had a decent amble. But so mild and calm this morning, off we went on the six mile walk to Hemingford Abbots, with lunch in the Hemingford Garden Room. Here we are heading back into St Ives along the water meadow, one of the best views of the town.
