27-Oct to 02-Nov 2013

Sun 27-Oct

Popped down the bowls club early this afternoon after squash looking for a blue folder that contained photos of all the old honours boards. No trace of that, but did find photo albums of club winners for 1995, 1997 and 1998. Found this photo as well, the oldest so far. Looks like early 1950s. The current status of the web site I'm working on for the club can be seen here.

Mon 28-Oct
Will they make it? Won't they make it? With high winds predicted for the morning it was uncertain if Trudy and Sarah would make it across from Cheltenham today. But the storm wasn't as bad as forecast and they arrived at 4.00pm. Here we are at Becky's for a buffet tea and general chat, the image a bit blurry 'cause Amelia doesn't stay still for long these days.

Tue 29-Oct
The school holiday day out with Connor and Sammy today, off to Cambridge on the guided bus for lunch and a trip around the museums. Linda, Trudy, Becky & Beth shuffled off to the local garden centre for lunch and a natter. Here we are, post McDonalds, in the Fitzwilliam Museum under their amazing central dome, which even 'The Firm' though rather impressive. Connor was intent on seeing every one of the thousands of artefacts, porcelain, statues etc. We'd already drawn a blank at the Museum of Zoology where they were having a refit. Next was the Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology where we had an interesting discussion about the status of humans who used a two million year old stone tool. Finished off the visit with a trip to Rymans and Blott for them both to drool over pens, exercise books and other stationery.

Wed 30-Oct
How nice to have the sun shining all day on your birthday. First, three glorious hours on the allotment putting the glass back into the greenhouse with Radio 3 playing in the background. At one point it looked like every passing aeroplane was diverting to have a look what I was doing. Then a couple of hours on the iMac late afternoon followed by evening dinner with family and grandchildren rounded off a perfect day.

Thu 31-Oct
The granddaughter's day out today, starting off with an hour of badminton. Here they are limbering up, before beating me 96-0. Paige kept score. Their string of kitties and bunnies are lined up on the bench as spectators. Then it was off for a McDonalds before a brief visit to a muddy park. Beth reminded me that next year there'll be three to entertain.

Fri 01-Nov
Switch over of shoes, from the trusty Brashers that have served me well for the past two years, to the new Dr Martens. Gave them both a good dose of dubbin... the old shoes are still serviceable for the allotment.

Sat 02-Nov
Here's a quick snap of the most important meal served at this evening's annual firework dinner at The Dolphin... Izzy's jacket spud. Bit of a panic when it was served since it came with a dusting of chives which had to be scraped off. The fireworks were amazing. Just seem to get better every year.
