Sun 03-Nov
Second field walk with Connor and the Archaeology Club this morning. Different field, with a Romano-British settlement at the far end... we didn't get that far. Not as muddy as I thought, due to the field being really gravelly, but the wind was cold. Connor and me had a wander across the site of the settlement when we'd finished field walking. Lots more pottery and tiles there. Connor came away with a flint tool and a medieval roof tile nail.
Mon 04-Nov
Never fail to stop and admire the sight of St Ives bridge at night. Here I am coming out of The Dolphin about 9.15pm, to head over the bridge and down Bridge Street to take home some spicy potatoes. Just finished the first 2014 Flower & Produce Show meeting. We went through the classes which had three or less entries, then the six pages of suggestions for change, considering whether to include each for next year's Show. One more meeting in a few weeks to make final decisions and then I can get the programme ready in time for Christmas.
Tue 05-Nov
Another day, another committee meeting... this evening the Bowls Club committee. Only took an hour, but spent another hour putting names to photos on the web site. The committee agreed to give me access to the club minute books dating right back to 1908 to write a history of the club, starting with that stored in the clubhouse loft. Here it is... many years of minute books and loads of old photos. Added to that the old honour boards were found... on the reverse side of those currently on the clubhouse walls. And finally, all the trophies are currently in store at the clubhouse and I can photograph those as well whenever I want. That's me busy for quite a bit of the winter months!
Wed 06-Nov
Two years since my last eye check, so into Specsavers this morning. New computer specs definitely needed since the current pair are over ten years old. Long distance vision also changed slightly. No time to get fitted up for new specs. Linda waiting on St Ives bridge for a coffee and cake at The Dolphin. Have to go back later in the week to see how much they'll sting me for.
Thu 07-Nov
Time for Jazz's weekly walk early this morning. Here's Sammy holding his lead on the way down to school. Jazz seems to behave much better when Sammy's in charge. Maybe something to do with the pocket full of treats. Then off to meet Connor on his walk around to school. Didn't growl at a single passing dog (Jazz that is).
Fri 08-Nov
More plodding away at the Bowls Club web site this evening, scanning and enhancing the old photos from the club's loft. Here's the oldest, the caption being 'Opening of the St Ives Bowling Club's new ground. First woods down by the President S Shuter and Vice President B Clements. Jubilee Year 1935'. Sadly some are water damaged, although fortunately only one beyond repair.
Sat 09-Nov
Watched the DVD of Les Miserables I got for my birthday from David, all two and a half hours of it. A bit gruelling to watch. In spite of the big names, not as good as the ten anniversary video I once had, staged at the Royal Albert Hall and played by the best actors to appear in the play.
