20-Oct to 26-Oct 2013

Sun 20-Oct
First of the birthday presents, a new watch from Linda to replace the £10 Casio that expired after 2 years. This one should last me a lifetime.

Mon 21-Oct
Bit of a problem coming out of The Legion this time of the year and finding the bike safely stored at the back of the building, let alone locating the locking chain, then the combination, resetting the combination to release, finding the bike's own wheel lock, and getting the key in to undo that. Then of course got to get my leg over the cross bar without coming crashing to the ground. Not too easy after a few whiskeys. When things aren't going right I just have to dance about to set off the St Ives Boat Club security light and hurry to release everything before it switches off again. Then anyone coming out of The Legion gets sight of a madman dancing about in the dark.

Tue 22-Oct

With Becky at last getting some time off from play school, we met Beth & Chris at The Dolphin for lunch. Here's Amelia having a good rock and roll. Sure that kid's going to be musical.

Wed 23-Oct
Here's Connor hurtling up the long path to our usual Wednesday afternoon rendezvous before heading to our house for tea, cheese, biscuits and an episode of Time Team (while Beth takes Paige to ballet). Tried to race him back for a spell but he left me behind to secure his favourite spot on the settee.

Thu 24-Oct
Cambridge Arts Theatre this afternoon to watch The Private Ear & The Public Eye, two excellent single act plays. I liked the first best, funny and poignant ending on a sad and thoughtful note, bringing back memories of living alone in a bedsit in the 1960s/70s. That's definitely me in the middle with the yellow pullover on, and my bedsit was about half the size of the one shown. We then went for a walk along The Cam in twilight, avoiding the hundreds of students whizzing back and forth on their bikes.

Fri 25-Oct
At last, the study revamp completed and everything fitted into the new chest of drawers. Compared to the image on Sunday 13-Oct, things are now a lot more comfortable and organised, not so cramped. And I can now stretch my feet out! Just a bit more tidying, few pictures put up, new carpet in time.

Sat 26-Oct
Aiming to do a bit of tidying on the allotment, surprised to find the autumn skips were on site. Managed to get rid of all the rubbish, enabling us to move the five fruit trees from the back to the front plot. Now only got some vines to move. While wheelbarrowing stuff up and down to the skip, notice just how colourful this swiss chard was.
