Sun 08-Sep
Another day, another effort to move things to the front plot at the allotment. Although the greenhouse was still being deconstructed, with Linda having nothing to do I took down Connor's & Sammy's treehouse so she could get on with burning any useless bits of wood. Here it is with the first floor and tower down. It always was somewhat wobbly, but with less support it definitely had a swagger to it. As soon as Linda found a dead blackbird underneath that was it... apparently that's a harbinger of doom and all the work from that point on had to be done at ground level just in case I fell off and impaled myself on the drill. Come to think of it, that's not all that unlikely... I've impaled myself a few times.
Mon 09-Sep
Four months old, and Amelia has been rolling over and trying to lift her tummy off the ground for some weeks. Here she is when we popped around to Beth's this afternoon, cakes in hand, giving us her party act. Shame about the hair.
Tue 10-Sep
The St Ives Archaeology Group AGM and presentation of the findings of the search for the lost St Ives Priory tonight at The Dolphin. Unfortunately Connor couldn't attend since he was on a plane to Spain, but he was given a couple of archaeology books from one member and a certificate for the most interesting project (on bootscrapers). Certainly a lot of interesting stuff shown.
Wed 11-Sep
Hurrah! Managed to get the greenhouse base and frame relocated this afternoon. The last of the moves onto the front plot, now just got some tidying up to do. Thank goodness for Linda's suggestion to try moving the frame without dismantling it... worked a treat!
Thu 12-Sep
At last got a bit more street cred car-wise. Picked up the Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.0 Ecoboost today. Drives like a dream, really comfortable. Pretty speedy as well. Lots of favourite music to play... preloaded all my music onto a USB stick.
Fri 13-Sep
Popped down to the Norris Museum garden this evening in the pouring rain for tea and cake, and to be awarded joint first prize from the Mayor for the best allotment in the St Ives in Bloom competition. Came away with a framed certificate and £25 worth of vouchers. The Mayor had just come hotfoot from the library, where he had awarded Izzy her reading challenge medal.
Sat 14-Sep
Off to Cambridge this morning on the guided bus... was Open Cambridge weekend, as well as the as well as the Cambridge Food, Garden & Produce Show. Here's a snap of the produce tent at the show... pretty measly compared to the St Ives show. Must have been no more than 100 exhibits, pretty poorly displayed. The huge food tent made up for it, with mouth watering smells and loads of tasters to try. Just had to several goes at the amazing Giggly Pig sausages. Had a wander through Gonville & Caius College grounds and chapel. Beautiful and peaceful in the centre of a busy, bustling Cambridge.
