Sun 01-Sep
Becky popped around this afternoon for us to sample her lemon drizzle cake that was discounted in the Show 'cause it had icing on the top. Pity, it was really tasty. Izzy also came to thrash me at Pairs, eat huge a mounts of buttered toast and wrestle with me on the carpet. Here she is cycling off back home, still a bundle of energy!
Mon 02-Sep
We only went and won our club pairs semi final match this afternoon! Read all about it at 'We're in the final!!!'. Up against it in the final against two very good players, but beginning to dream of our names up in gold lettering on the club winners' board.
Tue 03-Sep
Off for a walk with Beth and the kids across the meadow to Houghton and some lunch at the fantastic Hemingford Garden Room. Here we are just about to head back for St Ives. Connor and Paige had a paddle in the river and Paige gave me a thirty minute dissertation on her soft toy snake collection. Could easily imagine myself coming here for breakfast every morning, reading the free newspapers with their classical music wafting over me.
Wed 04-Sep
Got quite a bit of time to myself today, after letting the surveyor into David's place to do a valuation survey and then arranging solicitors for his conveyancing. The back garden had been neglected recently, but having cut the grass on Sunday I made some more progress on the stage 2 redesign. Here's the result, with almost half the area un-turfed and dug over, and the lawn raised around the edging. Really hard work though... the sun was blazing down and I was sweating buckets.
Thu 05-Sep
Beth joined us up the allotment this morning in the sunshine... the kids (and Becky) back at school today. While I sweated buckets starting to take down the greenhouse, Linda and Beth chatted away and Amelia snoozed. She was more alert when sitting on my lap watching me eat my cheese sandwiches for lunch though!
Fri 06-Sep
Opened the Hunts Post this afternoon and look who was staring out at me from page 3. Why do I do it? I even suggested the snap to the photographer, who looked somewhat doubtful when she took it. Of course everyone down the bowls club were asking where my moustache had disappeared to. Could have done with a shave. And the teeth don't look in prime condition. Oh, and by the way, it was a runner bean (not two) and the entry in the unusually shaped vegetable. I had two bigger runner beans than this one and won the longest runner bean class!
Sat 07-Sep
Started taking down the greenhouse today. Here it is with most of the glass out on one side of the roof. Nice and easy does it with all that glass. Will take me a few sessions to complete taking it down and then reconstructing. Must remember to get it the right way round this time so I can use the built in bottom door runner... see How Not to Put Up a Greenhouse.
