28-Jul to 03-Aug 2013

Sun 28-Jul
With a bit of spare time to myself this morning and the hope that a place in the bowls team is pending, thought I'd better to something about the embossed name on the club shirt and waterproof top I'd been given to wear. Initially thought by adding a tail on top of the 'n' and unpicking the surname I'd be able to end up with something like 'John McK'. Bit too much to expect the full surname, and wouldn't be centred anyway.

But after attempting to unpick thread with a pin, then scissors, and finally a razor blade, decided to give up and settle for going unnamed by getting a white patch sewn over the existing name. That name is really sewn on well!

Mon 29-Jul
Distributed  the last of the Flower & Produce Show posters around town this morning, along with the programmes (to view the programme click here). Already some enquiries had been made in the Town Council offices about the event.

Only four weeks to go this Saturday, advert to run several times a day on the community radio for the area, large banner to go up on The Waits and large roadside posters to be placed, the Town Council has mailed all allotment holders about the show and the town crier, Mayor and other dignitaries are all booked. The local newspaper printed our theme about 100 years ago... 1913 and an idyllic sunny afternoon in July, the lull before the storm, the fact one 1913 exhibitor was killed in action and several exhibiting families had sons killed during WW1. Starting to get serious!

Tue 30-Jul
It's always a really pleasant surprise to meet one of the family unexpectedly. Wandering around Huntingdon Garden & Leisure who should we meet but Beth and the kids, like us seeking something to do on a rainy morning. Here's just one of the many smiles I managed to get out of Amelia. Is that a McKinnie chin she's got? Poor sausage!

Wed 31-Jul
What with five of them now, it's even more of a challenge to get all the grandchildren into one snap. Will have to wait 'til Amelia is a little older, or Paige softens to her. Managed to get this one at The Marsh Harrier this evening after we'd had a meal with Becky, Beth and families to celebrate Linda's birthday. We'd just finished the meal, the granddaughters had fleeced me at pairs and, after a game of 'It' where I was nothing but, they all stopped moving for just a second.

Thu 01-Aug
Wandering around the garden this evening, desperately watering a few plants after an exhausting afternoon of squash and allotment tending, noticed I'd got a fig on the small fig tree I grew from a cutting. Really missed lovely juicy figs ever since I moved the brilliant tree growing happily in the chicken pen to another location on the allotment, where it died in the severe winter weather.

Fri 02-Aug

Latest fixation. Stylish, quiet, comfortable, safe, reliable, rare. A future classic. Saw another on the road today. Can't help but stop and stare every time one passes. What are the chances of trading in the Panda?

Sat 03-Aug
Look what Linda found on the allotment for Sammy! The caterpillar of a cinnabar moth. Haven't seen one of those before. Unfortunately Sammy is away for a few days on Dusty's and Doreen's boat, so he'll have to catch his own when he returns.
