Sun 07-Jul
First of the Music on The Waits July and August Sunday performances this afternoon, this week Somersham Town Band. Here's the crowd enjoying the performance.
With lovely music drifting across the river, we wandered around Holt Island, then listened to more from the garden of Norris Museum until the break. Quick trip around town, back to the garden to hear more, then on to the parish church for one of their huge cream teas, sat in the grounds overlooking the river.
Only disappointment was no sign of Vito and his wonderful Italian cherry ice creams outside the museum. Hope he's OK.

With brains the size of a pea you wouldn't think chickens could be trained. Maybe my bunch are smarter than average. Here they are this afternoon responding to the call 'come on', which they know means food. And in spite of them regularly going where they're not supposed to, it only needs a few harsh words from me and they walk back to where they should be at a pace indicating they're only reluctantly doing what I want.
Tue 09-Jul
Hurrah! Won my first competition bowls match this evening in the mens singles handicapped. My opponent had a handicap of 4, meaning he had to get to 25 to win, me to 21. But I didn't need the handicap, winning 21-18.
Thought I was in for another thrashing when Mike turned up having played for the club team in the afternoon at Godmanchester, still wearing his monogrammed club shirt. I'd been to the club roll up in the afternoon to try and get my eye in. After the first few ends I was ahead throughout, playing the bowls of my life. Bit annoyed that I let him gain 8 bowls in just two ends though!
Wed 10-Jul
A three hour walk along the complex of paths at the Needingworth nature reserve this morning. Much gathering of seeds to enhance the large collection of wild grass and flower seeds now collected to fill the bed I'm aiming to create in the redesigned back garden. Here's a small sample.
Thu 11-Jul
Flippin' 'eck! Another bowls competition singles win, this time for those who've never won any other competition. Best of three sets, each of seven ends, won 2-1 with my two easily won, only losing the set by a single bowl. Andrew's set objective achieved, didn't give away four bowls in one end. Next objective, not to give away three bowls. The Orange Socks of Success march on unwashed with an unbeaten record!
Fri 12-Jul
Taking tea and cake on The Dolphin patio with Beth and Amelia this morning in the sunshine, we noticed this leaf cutter bee with a leaf flying into the home he'd burrowed in the table. In between our chatting, drinking, eating and feeding & burping Amelia he kept hovering around us, returning with a fresh cut leaf.
Sat 13-Jul
One of those rare moments this afternoon, when I was able to snap all four eldest grandchildren. We'd watched the St Ives Carnival procession up Ramsey Road together, then walked up to Hill Rise Park for the Carnival itself. The focus of attention was this parakeet, which had been bobbing up and down in time to music from the band playing on stage.
