29-Jun to 05-Jul 2014

Sun 29-Jun
Pottered about the allotment this morning, in between intermittent showers of rain. Managed to put these willow whips in along one of the front fences. Trying it as an experiment to see if we can end up with a nice leafy willow hedge, then follow up with all the other borders if successful.

Mon 30 Jun
Here's me heading up Merrylands, just passing Woolpack Lane, after a Flower & Produce Show meeting at The Dolphin this evening. Not a soul on the streets, but the restaurants are heaving. Beautiful sunset behind the parish church spire, from which the sound of bells is washing over the town centre. Just love St Ives.

Tue 01-Jul
Coffee and cake at the new Tom's Cakes this morning with Beth and Amelia. Here's the sausage, initially in a bit of a tizz, but soon throwing bits of cake around and charming everyone with smiles.

Wed 02 Jul
Walked the Somersham to Colne walk this morning, hoping to see signs of the Bishop's Palace at Somersham after yesterday evening's archaeology group talk about it. The walk skirts the palace boundary, so a few features were evident... not much though. Pleasant amble in bright warm sunshine. On the route back, puzzled over this row of tall trees, evidently placed there purposefully, and why the track is called Rothschild Way. It's bang on the Greenwich Meridian, which may explain the trees. Further investigation turns up the track name is new, to commemorate Charles Rothschild.

Thu 03-Jul
Wandered around the water meadow this morning, another sunny warm day. Loads of wild flowers out, bursting with butterflies and insects. Here's a snap of my favourite butterfly, a comma. For once it didn't fly off as I approached.

Fri 04-Jul

Looking after Connor and Paige until Beth got home from work late this afternoon, here's Paige giving us a demonstration of the ballet sequence she'll be doing when she goes in for her latest ballet exams tomorrow morning.

Sat 05-Jul
Off to Parkhall Garden Centre with Becky and Izzy at noon to spend my Father's Day money on some pots. Here's Izzy posing a wicker play house. Think I tested the patience of the women, spending ages choosing between various designs. In the end settled for five heavy mediterranean style pots and some plants. Then went for lunch to The Windmill.
