06-Oct to 12-Oct 2013

Sun 06-Oct
What a brilliant and sunny day! After an afternoon spent on the allotment with Becky, Sammy and Izzy we were invited around to their house in the evening for a Sunday roast of lamb shank, roast spuds and gravy followed up with greengage crumble. And the day started with an archaeological field walk with Connor in a field north of Needingworth, the first the archaeology club had ever done. Here's Connor with his first find, a piece of old part glazed pottery. You can see his other two key finds by clicking Roman tessera and very old gate hinge.

Mon 07-Oct
With no chickens to tend before setting off, got to Hunstanton just after noon. Managed to have a wander along the beach, amble around the shops, have lunch and do some shopping at Tesco before picking up the keys. Here are the cliffs, basking in warm sunshine and blue skies... a perfect start to the holiday.

Tue 08-Oct
After a sunny amble up to Norfolk Lavender and back along the beach from Heacham, had yet another abortive attempt at getting tea at the new Marston's Honeystone pub/restaurant... 30min wait for a table and 30min wait for food. That's the third failed attempt since they opened earlier in the summer. Compensated by this wonderful Hunstanton sunset. Made do with fish and chips for tea.

Wed 09-Oct
Along the coastal path and beach from Burnham Overy Staithe to Holkham today, a bit breezy but some sun. Here's Linda in the distance after I'd stopped for a leak. Much consternation amongst coast hopper passengers since buses were now only every hour and in some cases people couldn't get on. Think Linda was one of the few fare paying passengers on our crammed bus. In the evening the wind really got up and the flood barriers were up a along the promenade. See what tomorrow brings!

Thu 10-Oct
With the high winds and intermittent rain continuing throughout the night and all of the day, we only managed a couple of short sorties outside. In the morning we went along the promenade to see the huge waves so untypical of Hunstanton, when I took this snap of one coming over the sea wall. Also managed to pop around a few shops. Then late afternoon we attempted the promenade again before giving up and having tea at The Waterside Bar overlooking the beach. At bedtime theft caravan was still being rocked about by even stronger gusts.

Fri 11-Oct

Back home from Hunstanton in time to have lunch at The Dolphin, in the afternoon we wandered around first to Beck's to watch Sammy playing Minecraft and for me to wrestle Izzy on the ground, then off to Beth's to catch up on news. Here's Amelia 'enjoying' her tea.

Sat 12-Oct
Taken me three sessions on the plot, but here's an idea how neat things are going to be allotment-wise now we've got more time to spend on the detail. Could have laid slabs around the polytunnel or even started to insert glass back into the greenhouse. But no, getting that central path absolutely straight is a statement of intention for the future. Now for the other edge...
