11-Aug to 17-Aug 2013

Sun 11-Aug
Hurrah! Finished the bricking this evening for stage 2 of the back garden redesign! Now just need to choose and order the pebbles, remove the grass, buy and position a new bird feeding station and bird bath, fill with the pebbles and plant some low growing succulents, herbs and rockery plants. Although it's taken me months to get the bricking finished, hopefully the next bits will be much quicker.

Mon 12-Aug
Here we are this evening at what has now become the fortnightly snooker battle with David down The Legion... fortnightly since he works late every other week and is too busy on summer Sundays, just us two since John moved to Ely. Matches pretty even so far, but I lost this evening 1-3 in spite of being in a commanding position in two matches. The snooker is followed up by a pair of chicken wraps between us, eating them sat at The Waits, before David cycles off home to walk Jazz  and I pay another visit to the takeaway for Linda's spicy potatoes.

Tue 13-Aug
Here's David again this evening, around for an Indian takeaway for tea, as usual stretched out in my favourite chair watching a film. And as usual I started dropping off to sleep within the first half hour of the movie.

Wed 14-Aug
Here's John outside the first pub we hit on our walk from Kings Cross to the British Museum. Hardly a pub in London that wasn't heaving with Scotland supporters. And Scotland certainly gave the usual lacklustre England a fright, going ahead twice before finally losing 2-3. Was good to see the England supporters getting agitated, goaded on by the celebrating Scots each time they went ahead.

Thu 15-Aug
Well, that's the strangely shaped vegetable exhibit sorted for the Flower & Produce Show in a fortnight. Casually inspecting the runner beans this afternoon, to see if I had one long enough to do justice to the longest runner bean class, noticed this one in the shape of a moustache. And the bonus is I do have another bean which should be long enough to get a placing.

Fri 16-Aug
All piled down to The Dolphin for lunch today. Paige and Sammy sat at a separate table eating their meal and discussing snakes. I had Izzy chatting in one ear, Connor in the other, both competing for attention. Linda, Becky and Beth happily gossiped throughout their meal. Really hard to get a snap where jaws were still... is it a family trait? Great fun though. Here's Deputy Mum holding Amelia, fast asleep after her usual smiling session. No chance of anyone wresting that kid away from Becky!

Sat 17-Aug
Walked into St Ives this evening to have dinner at The Dolphin. Sat by the window overlooking the bridge in one direction, the meadow in the other. Afterwards we sat by The Quay waiting for the bridge to light up at 20:45, here's the view. Then walked home to watch an episode of The Sopranos. Nice evening.
