09-Sep to 15-Sep 2012

Sun 09-Sep: The walk across the white bridge to Holt Island, crystal clear river water with fish idly swimming, and the surrounding greenery are special at any time, but this morning it was especially magical. With all the public buildings open to visit, the sound of Sunday service spilled out from the Parish church doors across the view.

Mon 10-Sep: Made plum wine, the freezer is full of plums, given plums to everyone in sight and still there's loads more to harvest. So this afternoon time for plum jam. Here's the result. Must say the colour is enticing... enough for Beth to nick a jar when she was around!

Tue 11-Sep: That didn't just go in did it? John shattered, his hopes for a winning 2 on the 6th hole in tatters when I chipped in from off the green. Even more shattering for him 'cause he did putt for 2. End result the same though... two rounds of 35 for me, 9 shots ahead.

Wed 12-Sep: Been eagerly awaiting the Apple event at 18:00 today, since keen to order a new iMac and the rumour is there's an updated version about to be announced. Hot footed it up to the study to switch on the laptop while Linda was watching Cororonation Street, spent half an hour on a videocall with Connor and Paige, then got to the announcement and the news was... nothing, zilch, not a mention! Disappointed isn't an apt description. So now it's another month's wait since there's rumoured to be another event in October when the update might be announced.

Thu 13-Sep: Here are the grandsons at the allotment this afternoon giving me instructions on more additions to the tree house, work that's now been going on for five years. They seem quite happy with progress, but will it ever finish? They're now talking about five storeys! At least the lift and moat seem to have been forgotten.

Fri 14-Sep: How clean are those windows! Car in for an MOT and service, weather a bit grey, so spent over two hours cleaning the windows. At last discovered the secret to crystal clear glass... microfibre cloths! Even cleaned the wobbly window. The window isn't wobbly, I am 'cause it's at the top of the stairwell so I have to teeter over the drop and use a ladder from outside.

Sat 15-Sep: Here's a dragonfly which kept coming back to rest on my knee when we sat down for a rest by blue lake waters after an hour's walking from Swavesey. Lunch at the slightly run down Admiral Vernon pub in Church End was better than expected; cheap and, with an ice cream from the newsagents opposite, a welcome rest on a hot day.
