12-Aug to 18-Aug 2012

Sun 12-Aug: Here's the range of produce from the allotment this morning, typical of what we're getting every other day. Lettuce, various beans, carrots, spring onions, courgettes, eggs, and of course plums... and more plums... and even more plums!

Mon 13-Aug: Well, that's the back garden design sorted in principle at least. Linda saw this drought garden at the Green House in St Ives and on our walk to town this morning we both had a look and fell in love. Lots of herbs in flower, ground covered in different grades of shingle, looked the kind of garden you'd just love to potter about in. Thing is, we've already got half the plants at home or the allotment. Just got to get down to a specific design for our garden, then do it in stages.

Tue 14-Aug: Look at that carrot! Here's Sammy proudly displaying the carrot he's just pulled up after a session on the allotment helping his nanny pick peas and beans. Really enjoyed himself.

Wed 15-Aug: Had a Eureka! moment at Huntingdon library this afternoon. Found a couple of adverts for the St Ives Flower Show for 1891 and 1893. Went trying to find any photos, but no luck... still to early for the technology to have reached provincial newspapers. Plugged away capturing more articles; now up to 1893, though goodness knows when I'll get time to transcribe them with this year's show only two and a bit weeks away. Entry forms beginning to trickle in, probably become a flood when the big banner goes up at The Waits on Sunday for the first time!

Thu 16-Aug: Here are the intrepid archeologists just about to excavate an interesting find Connor located last week on a walk north of Somersham, but which we couldn't extract at the time because it was too deep. Armed with towels the twosome had it out in minutes... subsequent research by Connor on t'internet revealed it to be a fifty year old brick. At least his mum will get some peace and quiet now! Cheese sandwiches and chocolate biscuits followed, then as we wandered back through Somersham allotments, a discussion about their current favourite topic... swear words.

Fri 17-Aug: Stopped off at Becky's whilst walking Jazz to see Izzy riding her bike without stabilisers. Here she is fixing up to run over my toes. She called me earlier in my walk to check when I was arriving to watch her and I couldn't get a word in as usual. When the grandchildren get mobiles I'm giving mine up!

Sat 18-Aug: With two weeks to go, out early this morning to put up our show banner on The Waits railings. Looks pretty eyecatching... hope not too many people spot the spelling mistake!
