22-Jul to 28-Jul 2012

Sun 22-Jul: Wandered up Kinnoull Hill this morning for what must be one of the best views in the UK, across the Tay valley towards Dundee. Wandered around Perth, walked out to Scone to spend the late afternoon with mum, then tea with Andrew and son, Andrew. In need of an early night so back at B&B before 20:00.

Mon 23-Jul: It's not the done thing for a man to carry pink flowers through Perth, which probably explains why I got so many looks when I carried these (a present for Amanda) this afternoon. Returned the looks with a "Wha' you lookin' at, pal" stare.

Tue 24-Jul: Look who was waiting for us when we arrived at Huntingdon train station at 16:00 today... though with sad news that someone had killed two of our chickens. Appears they did it for food. Samson and the other three chickens have been kept safe in Beth's shed while we were away.

Wed 25-Jul: First week of the school holidays, and our first Wednesday looking after Connor and Paige. Here they are trying on the wigs I took to the Scone Rewind 80's music event. Strange that they run for cover whenever I want to take a normal photo, but are happy to be snapped wearing silly syrups. Suspect it's in the genes.

Thu 26-Jul: Here's the latest bit of kit cooling down after a good session, a Qualcast petrol grass strimmer to keep the grass and weeds under control on the allotment. With a 30cc motor strapped to my side, sounds like the Third World War has started. At times it's got a mind of it's own, acting petulantly when it doesn't want to start. Effective though.

Bought it on Wednesday when with Connor and made the mistake of telling him Nanny wouldn't be happy. Within seconds of returning home, while I was secreting the purchase in the garage to give me time to think how to present its advantages, he shot indoors and dibbed on me... including the price! At least it solved my presentation problem.

Fri 27-Jul: Nobody can squeeze as much enjoyment out of £1 as Sammy does. Off around his favourite shop, Poundland, we went, Becky's warning echoing in my ears that he could take an age to decide what to buy. In fact he was relatively quick, having assessed all the options he plumped for these items (which of course required another £1 from his mum). He's got my love of all things stationery related. In contrast, Izzy made her choice in about ten seconds flat.

Sat 28-Jul: Pretty sure they were waiting for Connor to turn up to see the archeologist during her two hours at Norris Museum; he's certainly on first name terms with the staff there. The expert did a fantastic job of engaging him in conversation about his latest collection, which included several pieces of pottery from the 17th & 18th century, as well as a bit of lead and some asbestos cement.
