03-Jun to 09-Jun 2012

Sun 03-Jun: Home made rhubarb jam on toast this morning with breakfast. Deliciously fruity and tangy. It'll be good with yoghurt too since it's 66% fruit content. Rhubarb picked from the allotment Friday and the jam made yesterday evening using the recipe at Allotment Heaven : Rhubarb jam easy recipe.

Mon 04-Jun: Off for a wander along the triangular walk from Needingworth this afternoon. Passing by the sports field there seemed a lot going on so in I wandered. The village were having their equivalent of a Queen's Diamond Jubilee street party, with beacon ready to light in the evening, huge red white and blue balloon arched entrance, a small arena with stage, and the village hall open and serving beer. All around the arena were gazebos with small groups sat at tables having their picnics. One had really gone to town, and under a large white gazebo they sat dressed up at a table covered with white table cloth, candelabras, crystal glass, food and wine. What a great sight and atmosphere, with lots of entertainment to come. Would have loved to stay, but all around the walk I could hear lots of villagers enjoying themselves.

Tue 05-Jun: Invited round Beth's this morning for tea and red, white and blue cupcakes to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Managed to get a snap of Beth in her sparkly Union Jack dress, Paige also had her Union Jack dress on. Here's Beth, with the cupcakes taking pride of place on the table. Managed to stuff down two before settling on the settee for a chat, then got buried beneath Connor and Paige.

Wed 06-Jun: Off to St Ives town centre with Connor and Paige, who we were looking after until late afternoon. First a pop into the Norris Museum for a view of their dinosaur exhibition and a sublime sit in the garden seats soaking up the sunshine... for a few seconds only. Then to The Dolphin for cakes and drinks. Unsure about walking the kids through Hemingford Meadow. Might it be too muddy? Actually it was dry and beautiful, full of buttercups and clover in flower. Paige spent most of the the time having fun running through the flowers.

Thu 07-Jun: Here's young grandmaster Connor thinking hard about his game of chess. Amazed me he could still remember how to play, it had been about two years since we last played. Made a careless error, he snapped up my queen, and with a few prompts I was checkmated! Beth off to zumba with her mate Mel, Chris working late.

Fri 08-Jun: We're off for a week's holiday in Hunstanton tomorrow, so went through my usual ten minute packing routine this evening. Bit ahead of myself this time; in May did it as usual the morning we left and forgot the maps. So...

Maps, check
Clothes, check
Books, check

Phew, glad that's done! Just got to box up the trusty Pure radio and all will be ready. The image doesn't do justice to the days of preparation for Linda and the mountain of boxes and bags that result.

Later added another couple of library books that had fallen to the back of my cabinet. Can it be right that books easily outweigh my clothes?

Sat 09-Jun: Here we are in the evening on our second wander of the day through Hunstanton town centre. All the recent rain must have really cleaned the air, since we had the clearest view I can remember right across The Wash to the Lincolnshire coast.

Bit disappointing earlier in the day to find we'd been allocated the same caravan we had five weeks ago, since part of the excitement is having a different caravan each time. At least it meant we had everything unpacked and stored away in record time!
